J&K’s Baramulla Police detain 318 amid major crackdown on narco terror

The Baramulla Police on Sunday said it has conducted a major crackdown on narco-terror at various locations from Uri along the Line of Control (LoC) to other areas of the Baramulla district during the previous three days, arresting 318 drug dealers and recovering large consignments of drugs.

According to police, drug handlers in Pakistan are using smugglers as part of a conspiracy to smuggle drugs into Jammu and Kashmir and indoctrinate the next generation with drug addiction.

Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Amod Ashok Nagpuri said, “Baramulla is a border district and cross-border smuggling of drugs and arms is a big challenge for us. In the last six months, the Baramulla police have registered 187 FIRs under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

“Around 284 drug peddlers were arrested and another 34 notorious drug peddlers were booked under the PIT NDPS/PSA. A total of 318 drug dealers have been arrested so far and the law is taking its course. This effort aims to curb the drug culture in Baramulla district and we endeavor to make Baramulla a drug-free district,” said the SSP.

The SSP said that Pakistan aims to push drugs throughout the Kashmir Valley, adding that “we will not allow the nefarious plans of Pakistan to succeed. Recently, the Baramulla police froze properties, including a house and a car, of notorious drug dealers.

SSP Baramulla further revealed that specialized units have been deployed to get vital information about the drug mafia operating in the area. The SSP described the proactive measures taken by the Baramulla police to combat the drug trade in the district and acknowledged the urgent need to address the escalating drug crime in the area.

“Citizens are encouraged to come forward with any information they have regarding drug traffickers or suspicious activities related to the sale of narcotics. Together, we can build a safer, drug-free environment for our residents,” said the SSP.

“Dedicated teams deployed by the Baramulla Police consist of experienced officers and undercover agents tasked with discreetly gathering intelligence on the operations, networks, and supply chains of the drug mafia. By infiltrating these criminal networks, the teams try to gather reliable evidence to help in effective crackdowns and bring the culprits to justice. Residents praised the move by the Baramulla police,” the SSP added.
